About the Book Book Title: Minding the Light Author: Suzanne Woods Fisher Genre: Historical Romance Release date: July 3, 2018 Six long years ago, Captain Reynolds Macy sailed away from his bride, looking forward to the day when he would return to Nantucket Island with a ship’s hold full of whale oil. But when that momentous day finally arrives, Ren soon discovers that everything has changed in his absence. Everything. “Is nothing on this island as it appears to be?” he whispers in despair. Unlike most islanders, bold and spirited Daphne Coffin doesn’t defer to Ren as an authoritative whalemaster, but sees through his aloofness to the aching heart beneath. She encourages him to return to his Quaker roots and “mind the Light,” finding solace in God and community. As Ren becomes the man she believes him to be–honorable, wise, faithful–she finds herself falling in love with him. But how can she, when her heart is spoken for? Tristram Macy is Ren’s business partner, cousin, and best friend–and Daphne’s fiancé. Love always comes at a cost, but when is the price too high? Suzanne Woods Fisher welcomes readers back to the Quaker community on Nantucket Island for this riveting love story, full of unexpected moments. Click here to purchase your copy! About the Author Carol-award winner Suzanne Woods Fisher writes untold stories about inspiring people. With over one million copies of her books sold worldwide, she is the bestselling author of fiction and non-fiction, ranging from Amish Peace: Simple Wisdom for a Complicated World to the historical novel Anna’s Crossing. My Review Minding the Light is the second book in the Nantucket Legacy series. In this story you will read about two completely different times. Part of this story is set in the 17th century and part of it is in the 19th century. You can tell the author had to have done alot of research with so much detail in this historical story. I liked parts of it being journal entries. This story is full of sadness, joy, and surprises along the way. Be sure you read the glossary first and you may have to refer back to it or you might be lost with some of the words and their meanings. Daphne was my favourite character. I really liked how she was so feisty. Overall not a bad read. Disclaimer : I was given a complimentary copy of this book but all thoughts and opinions are my own honest ones. Heroes come in all forms and may be just an ordinary person in your life. Alot of times someone that does something hero like does not feel like they are a hero. Each of these stories was different in ways but they all do have a little bit of romance thrown in the stories. The stories are all short easy yet enjoyable reads. I liked each story in this book. Cannot truthfully pick a favorite of these three. The main men in each story were so different with one being a firefighter, one a blind man who runs a store, and one a teenage boy that likes to ride his bike and can come across as being a little mean. Through the reading of these there were times they left me sad and there were also times where it put a smile on my face. Very good reads. Completing much-needed renovations, however, while also competing for a prestigious flower competition with her mother as the head judge, soon has Quinn in over her head. Not that she’d ever ask for help. Luckily, she may not need to. Quinn’s father and his meddling friends find the perfect solution in notorious Olympic skier Grady Benson, who had only planned on passing through the old-fashioned lakeside town. But when a heated confrontation leads to property damage, helping Quinn as a community-service sentence seems like the quickest way out—and the best way to avoid more negative press. Quinn finds Grady reckless and entitled; he thinks she’s uptight and too regimented. Yet as the two begin to hammer and saw, Quinn sees glimpses of the vulnerability behind the bravado, and Grady learns from her passion and determination, qualities he seems to have lost along the way. But when a well-intentioned omission has devastating consequences, Grady finds himself cast out of town—and Quinn’s life—possibly forever. Forced to face the hurt holding her back, Quinn must finally let go or risk missing out on the adventure of a lifetime. Click here to purchase your copy! Visit her online at www.courtneywalshwrites.com. My Review Just Let Go is the second book in the Harbor Pointe series. I did not realize til now that this book is in a series . So I have not read the first book but that did not keep me from enjoying this read. Quinn is the new owner of an old flower shop that has been in her family since she was a child. She also lives above the shop. She has alot on her plate with trying to make changes and get her shop ready for a reopening. Grady is quite the opposite of Quinn. He gets stuck in this little town after making a mistake and having to face the judge . I found this story funny at times and also sad at times. Both Quinn and Grady are going through struggles of their own. This story is set in a small town that felt like a town where you would feel welcome. This read captured me in from the beginning and I did not want to lay it down. Disclaimer: I was given a complimentary copy of this book but all thoughts and opinions are my own honest ones. Romance has never been actress Chloe Daschle’s forte—in life or on screen. But everyone knows who to call for a convincing death scene . . . and it might be killing her career. When Chloe is given a peek at the script for an epic love story, she decides to take her destiny into her own hands and request an audition for the lead female role, Esther Kingsley. The compelling tale, inspired by family lore and a one-page letter from the colonial ancestor of scriptwriter Jesse Gates, just might break her out of this career-crippling rut. Jesse would rather write about romance than live through it after his past relationship ended in disaster. But once on-set together, the chemistry between Jesse and his leading lady is hard to deny. Centuries earlier, in the heart of the Revolutionary War, Hamilton Lightfoot and Esther Longfellow wrote their saga off the silver screen. Esther’s Loyalist father opposes any relationship with Hamilton, but Esther must face her beloved father’s disapproval and the dangers of war in order to convince Hamilton of their future together. Hamilton has loved Esther for years, and on the eve of battle pens the love letter she’s always wanted—something straight from the heart. Set in stunning upcountry South Carolina, The Love Letter is a beautifully-crafted story of the courage it takes to face down fear and chase after love, even in the darkest of times. And just maybe, all these generations later, love can come home in a way not even Hollywood could imagine. Click here to purchase your copy! About the Author Rachel Hauck is an award winning, New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Her book The Wedding Dress was named Inspirational Novel of the Year by Romantic Times. She is a double RITA finalist, a Christy and Carol Award Winner. Rachel sits on the Executive Board for American Christian Fiction Writers, and is the comical sidekick to Susan May Warren at the amazing My Book Therapy. She is a worship leader and speaker. A graduate of Ohio State University with a degree in Journalism, Rachel is a devoted Ohio State football fan. She lives in sunny central Florida with her husband and ornery cat. My Review The Love Letter is a story that goes back and forth between two drastically different times. With Jesse and Chloe they are in current day in the Hollywood area and then there is also Esther and Hamilton who are in history times during the War times. Very neat how the author twisted these two stories into one. Jesse wrote a play based on a love letter that was from his family's history way back . Chloe is a struggling actress and also a hopeful woman that believes true love with the one still exists. I really liked Chloe and maybe part of that is because I am a single woman myself. This story took a little while for me to really get grasped into. I liked the modern contemporary parts but at first the history parts just kind of dragged and I didn't see the big connection but after continuing it did start to come together more and pulled me in to the point I didn't want to lay the book down. Overall a good read. Disclaimer : I was given a complimentary copy of this book but all thoughts and opinions are my own honest ones. She just can’t stand his church. Nobody told Katrina being a pastor’s wife would be easy. But she never imagined that the stress she and her husband would face from his new job could so easily destroy their marriage. In spite of her mother’s disapproval, Katrina marries a pastor whose job immediately plucks her away from her music, her symphony, and the city life she loves and plants her in the small town of Orchard Grove, Washington. If she knew going into her new life that she’d be sacrificing her music career for a congregation full of gossips and backbiters and that the pressure of her husband’s new job would turn him into someone she hardly recognizes anymore, she might have reconsidered marrying him in the first place. Unfortunately, it’s too late to do anything about that now. Or is it? Click here to purchase your copy! About the Author Alana is a pastor’s wife, homeschooling mom, self-diagnosed chicken lady, and Christian suspense author. Her novels have won awards from Women of Faith, Book Club Network, Grace Awards, Readers’ Favorite, and more. Alana’s passion for social justice, human rights, and religious freedom shines through her writing, and her books are known for raising tough questions without preaching. She and her family live in rural Alaska where the northern lights in the winter and midnight sun in the summer make hauling water, surviving the annual mosquito apocalypse, and cleaning goat stalls in negative forty degrees worth every second. My Review Breath of Heaven is book three in the Orchard Grove series, but this story reads well as a stand alone . Katrina and Greg are newly married and move to a new area to take over a church. This story hugely revolves around Katrina and her struggles with all of the changes in her life. Being a new person to a church can be difficult but even more so being the new young pastor's wife. I really felt sorry for her in several instances in this story. Wondered a few times if she was gonna pack up and leave it all behind . This story shows alot of stepping into a God given role and how it is rarely an easy thing. Good read. My Review: A Place to Call Home is the first book in the Front Porch Promises series. This story captures so much in it such as starting over, forgiveness, learning to trust again, etc. This story pulled me in from the start. It just felt like you were in a nice homelike setting. Molly had to learn to not be so scared and to trust and to in turn help someone out by giving them a chance. Kurt recently got out of prison for a crime that he claims he did not commit but he is finding it hard to start fresh with his life due to people not wanting to give him chances because they are quick to judge. Was a nice enjoyable read. Disclaimer: I was given a complimentary copy of this book but all thoughts and opinions are my own honest ones. About the Author: Carol E. Keen enjoys fresh coffee, hot tea, and a good book. She was published for several years in FAMA magazine (Freshwater And Marine Aquarium) as a contributing editor. She published her first book on CD, called Simply Seahorses. She is the author of The Beauty Series and The Corandira Station, to name a few of her works. She currently resides in the South with her husband and family and spends her time writing, reading, working in photography, and being with her much loved critters. My Review:
The Corandria Station is a quite unique read. I think it would fall into a fantasy type of book. Mimsey is the main character in this story. Mimsey is also not a human. She is on a space station and is searching for her missing crew. I liked how Mimsey was working through her feelings of how she felt ugly. I feel like this story just jumped in and really made you feel lost as to what was going on . This is a short read.Teens would probably really like this type of story. It is far different from my normal read but it was not a bad read and if there happened to be more to come in a series I wouldn't be totally against reading it. Obtaining a claim in the Cherokee Strip Land Run is Elsie Smith’s only hope for survival, but not just any plot will do. She has a specific one in mind. The plot’s not only a way to honor her pa and his life, but also to provide a livelihood for herself. Elsie’s willing to do whatever it takes to get that piece of property, and she determined to keep it, but she wasn’t planning on a kind, handsome preacher standing in her way. Her bitterness is what protects her, and she has not intentions of allowing that preacher to lay claim to her land … or her heart. Click here to purchase your copy! About the Author Jodie Wolfe got bitten by the writing bug as a young girl after reading and watching Little House on the Prairie. She creates novels where hope and quirky meet. When not writing, she enjoys spending time with her husband in Pennsylvania, reading, walking, and being a Grammie. Learn more at www.jodiewolfe.com. My Review To Claim Her Heart is historical romance fiction. This book was a fun read from the beginning . When Elmer and Benjamin claimed the same piece of land they got off to a rocky start . They decided to share the land until their case could be heard and resolved. This idea would eventually lead them to becoming friends. Benjamin is a pastor and Elmer isn't on a good level with God right now . With few neighbors in the area the ones that are close become friends and help each other out in many ways. I enjoyed this read . Disclaimer: I was given a complimentary copy of this book but all thoughts and opinions are my own honest ones. Marino Genre: Fantasy Release Date: March 30 For centuries the small port town of Points Worth has been able to communicate with the ocean in its own language. But the water has just gone silent and its last word has shaken those able to translate it. A knowledge of sea-script won’t be enough to mend the broken relationship between man and the deep. Gil, a young nautical linguist, will have to break rules and search the past to discover why the ocean ceased its tides—or had them stolen. Points Worth is a novelette set in the world of Kingdom of Ruins, and is a prequel to the first book in the series. Click here to purchase your copy! About the Author D.C. Marino is a dedicated reader of history books and fantasy novels, both of which occupy an equal amount of space on her bookshelves. But it wasn’t until she realized how one breathed life into the other that she became addicted to finding the intersections of the real world and the fairy story. Still more: what those intersections about us as a creative, curious people. Kingdom of Ruins is her debut novel. My Review Points Worth is a prequel to a series. With it being a prequel it is a short read. I don't think I have ever read a short story that was a prequel before so I found this concept quite different. This is a fantasy type story. The Ocean speaking to humans was a little different. It is definitely a unique story.Kingdom of Ruins will be the next book to follow this story. My Review The Captured Bride is a part of a series called the Daughters of the Mayflower series. I have not read any of this series and think that this worked fine as a stand alone book. This story is set in the 1700s during the time of War. Lots of tidbits about history in this story. The story does take alot of twists along the way. I personally found the story a little slow to get going. Mercy is a very strong woman that is not scared of adventure. She was raised by and Indian tribe. Overall a good clean read. Disclaimer: I was given a complimentary copy of this book but all thoughts and opinions are my own honest ones.
